September 20 – October 6, 2019 – Quartair Contemporary Art Initiatives, Den Haag (NL)
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. When more points appear, a web will connect. Some connections will be used intensively, others find themselves on the edge. In this exhibition Ellen Rodenberg, Kees Koomen and Maarten Schepers will chart the EX-MÊKH network developed in the past thirteen years.
For this occasion they have invited artists that had an influence on them: Marian Wijnvoord (Berlin), Frans van Lent (Dordrecht) and Niels Post (Rotterdam).
The exhibition consisted of the work by EX-MÊKH and guests: with paintings of Marian Wijnvoord, a large textwork by Niels Post and a performance by Frans van Lent. Everyday the exhibition was open, Frans would come in during opening hours and then he hung three large canvases on the wall which were empty. He measured and put hooks in the wall, unwrapped the canvasses and put them up. After he took them off the wall again and packed them up. He took the hooks out of the wall and repaired the wall, put paint over the spots, wiped the floor and left again. The situation would be as before he came: three packed unpainted canvasses against the wall, ready to be hung!
EX-MÊKH showed some of their individual works: an installation by Ellen Rodenberg, sculpture by Maarten Schepers and paintings and textworks by Kees Koomen. Kees also did a performance during the exhibition period: he made a diary on the wall with wollen threads in different colours. Everyday he would come in and wrote an observation on the wall with the wool.
